About BelgiumQuiz

BelgiumQuiz is a free, English-language quiz about Belgium: its places, history, politics, sport, culture, food and nature. Play ten questions, see what you got right, learn something from every answer, and challenge a friend to the exact same quiz.

There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your score, the explanations and the sources are never locked behind anything.

How the questions are made

  1. A source first. Every question starts from a specific version of an English Wikipedia article about a Belgian subject.
  2. A draft, with help from AI. An AI language model, run on our own computer, drafts a few questions from that article, each with one correct answer, three wrong ones, a short explanation, and a quote from the article that proves the answer.
  3. Automatic checks. Software checks that the quote really appears in the article, that the four answers are different, that the answer isn't given away in the question, and more. A second AI pass rejects questions that are ambiguous, trivial, too obscure, not really about Belgium, or missing a date for facts that change over time.
  4. A person reviews every question. Only questions that a human has read and approved are ever shown on this site.

Each answer in the review links to the exact Wikipedia version it was based on. Wikipedia can be wrong too, and facts change. If something looks off, use Report a problem under the question in your answer review. Reported questions are checked, and a question can be taken out immediately. A quiz that contained a corrected question is withdrawn rather than silently changed.

Fair challenges

When you challenge a friend, they get the very same quiz you played: same questions, same order, same answer order. Your score on the challenge is fixed when you create it. If you play the quiz again, that replay is practice and doesn't change it. A tie is a tie: there is no hidden speed bonus.
